We went to the Garfield Park Conservatory again recently, and I can tell this is going to be a great spot for cold and rainy days. It's free (unless you make a donation), it's warm, it's full of plants, water and fish, and it's close to home. We can also pack lunches to eat there since they have tables set up inside and out. AJ loves to run around and tell me what colors he sees, since the plants and their flowers come in a wide variety of hues, and it's a perfect place for someone his size to explore.

The other day the Payne's and the Ma's met us there and the kids had fun together and on their own. The kids area was a big hit, and I think AJ might have been up for trying the tube slide alone, if there were not a bunch of loud, fast big kids there at the same time. Instead, he went down in my lap (a physical feat for anyone who has not seen the slide!)

We also enjoyed looking into the coi pond and seeing the maintenance crew planting and moving trees around! AJ decided he wanted to help with the wheelbarrow, and he and his buddy Jack worked on moving a hose together (I'm sure the GPC really appreciated all their efforts...) Needless to say, as the days get cooler and shorter, we will probably start visiting the GPC at least every other week, if not more! I'm getting a LITTLE nervous about how to keep a now running, climbing and exploring AJ inside all winter!! (I guess we can go out now and then to play in the snow, but you know what I mean.) Thank goodness for the library, all the museums and the Park District gymnastics class!
